Deaconess Health System Accelerates Abridge Expansion Across Specialties Due to Unprecedented Clinician Demand

Peer-to-peer referrals within the 19-hospital, 2,000-clinician healthcare system have driven rapid expansion of Abridge

SAN FRANCISCO, CA—December 17, 2024—Deaconess Health System, a nationally recognized leader in healthcare innovation and patient-centered care, is expanding the use of Abridge, a generative AI platform for clinical documentation, across its 19-hospital network. Following an overwhelmingly successful pilot program, this enterprise-wide expansion underscores Deaconess’ commitment to leveraging advanced technologies to improve healthcare delivery for the 1.5 million people it serves across southwestern Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeastern Illinois.

Due to high clinician demand, Deaconess has quadrupled the originally planned deployment of Abridge. The platform, which seamlessly integrates with Epic, has proven instrumental in reducing administrative burdens, enhancing patient engagement, and saving clinicians valuable time that can be redirected to connecting with patients. The decision to accelerate deployment was driven by overwhelming demand from clinicians across a multitude of specialties, including the emergency department.

“Our decision to partner with Abridge reflects Deaconess’ broader commitment to leveraging advanced technology to meet the needs of our patients and providers,” said Jeremiah Kenoyer, Lead Clinical Analyst at Deaconess. “Abridge’s ability to adapt to our workflows and listen to feedback has been critical to this successful rollout. It’s not just about technology—it’s about improving the experience for everyone involved in care delivery.”

Abridge’s focus on building collaborative partnerships with forward-thinking healthcare systems like Deaconess enables efficient adaptation to evolving needs, including responding to increased demand by expediting implementation across the enterprise.

“Abridge provides world-class support to our partners, from pilot to enterprise-wide expansion and beyond,” said Julia Chou, Abridge Chief Operating Officer. “We are thrilled to partner with innovative healthcare systems like Deaconess to fulfill their rapid implementation needs, supporting specialties from pediatrics to palliative care, as well as different care settings.”

This partnership with Abridge is just one example of Deaconess’ thoughtful approach to delivering excellence in healthcare. From leveraging AI platforms like Abridge to expanding its facilities and services, Deaconess remains a leader in driving healthcare innovation in the region. Abridge exemplifies how technology can drive meaningful advancements in healthcare, benefiting both patients and providers.

“We are expanding Abridge enterprise-wide due to the incredible success of the AI platform in saving our clinicians time and restoring their connection with patients,” said Adam Fiedler, Chief Clinical Applications Officer at Deaconess. “At Deaconess, we are dedicated to advancing healthcare through innovative solutions. Abridge’s seamless integration with Epic and intuitive interface empowers our clinicians to focus on what matters most—providing high-quality, compassionate care to our patients.”
