Peer-Reviewed Results Show Efficacy of Abridge to Increase Clinician Satisfaction and Reduce Cognitive Load
Clinicians who use AI for clinical documentation are familiar with its many benefits—now there is scientifically validated evidence to back up their testimonials.
Recent findings published in prestigious peer-reviewed healthcare journals demonstrate that Abridge increases professional satisfaction, while reducing cognitive load and burnout.
According to a study published in the February 2025 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, clinicians who used Abridge were seven times more likely to find their workflow easy and five times more likely to believe they could complete notes before the next patient visit.1 The clinicians reported the following benefits:
- 81% felt Abridge made their current documentation workflow easy to use
- 77% felt Abridge improved patient care by decreasing documentation burden
- 73% reported decreased time spent documenting outside of clinical hours
- 67% felt less at risk of burnout due to documentation
- 64% felt increased satisfaction at work

These results are based on pre- and post-intervention surveys administered to nearly 100 clinicians across specialties at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC). Notably, the positive impact of Abridge clearly emerged despite approximately 70% of surveyed providers already using speech recognition technology at baseline.
Relatedly, findings published in the March 2025 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Digital Health, demonstrated that clinicians using Abridge experienced a 61% reduction in cognitive load, as measured by the NASA-TLX load index.2 These results were based on surveying 40 ambulatory clinicians at KUMC, who selected two comparable clinic sessions and were randomized to first use Abridge or their usual note-writing process, then switched to the alternate method during the second session.

While clinicians often share their love stories, these findings across two research studies further validate the positive impact of Abridge.
